    Description

    GERALD THURSTON LIGHTOLIER ATOMIC MODERN UBER RARE TRIPOD BRASS  FLOOR LAMP 1950's
    DESIGN:
    A striking and uber rare vintage Modern Atomic Space Age Brass Tripod floor lamp designed by Gerald Thurston for Lightolier lighting designs circa 1950's.  This distinguished design is one of the true rarities of Thurstons' creations from that era along with its matching table lamp design that does surface occasionally. It was only produced briefly around 1954 and was largely overshadowed by the highly successful "Profile" collection of 1955 which ultimately overulled the need for other similar styles. The parts are primarily manufactured of solid Brass/anodized aluminum, perforated pressed steel, cast iron and
    are extremely well machined and manufactured. This design
    was
    prominently featured in the film "Stranger than Fiction" adorning Dustin Hoffmans' Brutalist architecture office (see last pic of scene).
    CONDITION
    :
    This striking Iconic Mid Century Modern lamp is in excellent original condition, completely intact and fully functional. The anodized Brass rods exhibit just minimal signs of wear at their tops around the metal diffuser (common design issue) but otherwise with no damage or repair evident
    .
    The 3-way socket/pull chain switch assembly detail is super clean while the perforated shade diffuser is equally as clean overall with just a few tiny marks.
    The original Linen shade has been
    refabricated with new off White Linen utilizing the original frame and is essentially perfect
    .
    The switch/
    sockets
    and power cord are original and have been inspected to be clean, safe and functional. The Black enameled aluminum shroud that covers the heavily weighted cast iron base does show various small dimples & dings which is very common due to the soft nature of the aluminum, that said it has been refinished at some point so it looks very clean and presents well.
    DIMENSIONS:
    The lamps general dimensions are 54" tall with an overall width of 10" to the tripod base, the shade is 18" diameter…bulbs are NOT included.  The lamp will be shipped in two LARGE boxes (shade & base)...hence the hefty shipping $$.
