Description
Offered for your consideration is the Circa 1930 Junior Model 2,000 Watt J. G. McAlister Hollywood Studio Fresnel Light Fixture. We bought out the entire inventory of stored antique lights and grip from Paramount Studios in the 1980's.
We have been selling them off over the years but most were seriously molested, repainted, repaired and changed from their original state. These sold for much lower prices, as we did not find them historic or rare.
BUT
, there was a small handful of these fixtures that were unmolested and VERY special.
Some were labeled "DESILU" and were used in shooting the "I Love Lucy" TV series (DesiLu Productions) in the 50's. Those have all been sold years ago.
Then there was this one.
It was in the original J.G.M. factory color, never structurally molested, never repainted, never repaired, never sandblasted or modified in illumination purpose or cosmetics. It was part of the main lighting inventory of Paramount Studios and could have very likely worked on the LUCY show and other films from the 30's forward.
The original "PARAMOUNT ELECT" stenciled PAINTED label in white, is studio original, found on both sides of the fixture and is 100% authentic and exactly how we got it from the studio.
PLEASE
BE AWARE THAT WE HAVE SEEN SOME OF THESE FIXTURES FOR SALE WITH FAKE PARAMOUNT STENCIL NAME LABELS PAINTED ON THEM.
THIS ONE IS MORE COSTLY BECAUSE WE BOUGHT IT DIRECT FROM PARAMOUNT WITH THEIR STUDIO STENCIL LABEL EXISTING AND WE PUT THIS FACT IN WRITING ON OUR CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY.
WE HAVE BEEN SELLING CORRECT AND TRUE HOLLYWOOD STUDIO ANTIQUES FOR OVER 50 YEARS.
There is evidence of some black over paint around the front lens fitment ring from a long ago high heat paint coating of the actual ring only. This is the only non factory change we can find and this was a common studio practice to preserve and keep the ring from heat aging over the years. We can attempt to and very likely remove this black overpaint area at no charge to the collector.
This was all part of the original state as we found it and as it was used at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
We have never cleaned or polished this fixture and for the photos submitted here, we used ONLY a soft brush to gently dust it off for photography.
We will supply it in the original as shown state or offer a free of charge preservation finish as either: cleaned & dull, buffed semi dull, clear minor gloss, clear semi gloss, clear high gloss.
We will
NOT
offer a repaint or do a bare metal grinder finish on this rare piece.
We will offer to add correct re-electrification with a household bulb and a wireless on-off switch for display illumination but will not remove or molest the original internal electrics or switch.
This light belongs in a museum
and is priced accordingly.
We have not seen another just like this one in our many years of research.
We have 2 others that are similar. One is very used, but in the original green Paramount color and shows significant strong usage patina and the other fixture has been long ago repainted black, probably by Paramount in later years; both were used at Paramount Studios and are stenciled, but the stencil look is softer and more worn.
These will be priced at a
SIGNIFICANTLY
lower price.
We do have other vintage light fixtures priced from a few hundred dollars, if your budget leads you to that range.
Let us know if we can help fit one of our antiques to your budget.
This very special fixture is a one of a kind and certified to be original and authentic with all the natural patina of working at Paramount since the 1930's.
If this price is too costly for you, ask us about our other inventory of antique studio lights. We have a large range of brands, conditions and prices.
Included with this purchase is a signed and sealed Certificate Of Authenticity from Cinema Antiques, our gallery, suitable for framing.
