Description
Pair(2) of WPA, Machine Age, Art Deco, Modernism, Industrial Design Bronze Plaques. Fantastic decorative plaques measuring 11 1/8”x 10 3/4”, framed in oak. Overall dimensions are 16 5/8”x 16 3/8”. They depict two barefoot and shirtless men engaged in preoccupations of their time. One inspects a model airplane, holding an airplane propeller surrounded by parts and tools, the other in a loincloth, seated on books, contemplating a measuring device or gear, alongside an electric radio plugged in, measuring tools on his desk. Both very 1930’s- 1940’s in feel, nice patina, with great detail and subject matter. Was told they were cast by a foundry (Williams ?) that worked on the doors for Washington D.C’s Library of Congress. Unsubstantiated but I never put the time into researching this. Not sure if that would even have a bearing on the value or importance. Weight for the pair is just under 25 lbs. Thanks for looking!!
